Look UP

I walked into my local pharmacy, asked for my refill and waited. I looked up and noticed a intricate stained glass mural on the ceiling. It was stunning! I couldn’t take my eyes off it.
I asked when the ceiling had been redesigned and much to my surprise it had been there for several months. I had not noticed. Maybe it was because every time I came in I was looking down at my phone, or I was in too big of a hurry to stop and look up.
The following week, remembering my “pharmacy lesson”,I walked my dog Peyton and decided to stop and look up. I had been struggling with keeping a fresh and innovative perspective toward my life and future for several days.
As I looked up, I fixed my eyes on the trees, the sky, the clouds, I felt my world becoming bigger, wider, more vast and promising. My perspective immediately changed. I felt a rush of energy and then a refreshing drop of hope. All in a moment of simply looking up.
This perspective helped me to truly see myself as an integral part of humanity and gave me a sense of awe toward the world. It transported me out of my own circumstances and opened my heart and mind.
When my kids were young, I often lifted their chin and said; “Look up at me.” I wanted them to embrace truth, look beyond themselves and know they were seen and loved.
Now, as I venture through life, so often filled with challenge, adventure and sometimes pain, I can lift my own chin, look up and embrace truth and know I am seen, loved and the world is full of possibilities.
“Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward, eastward and westward. Genesis 13:14
Special note: One of my favorite songs today is Look Up Child by Lauren Daigle
