Pitfall Plan

January 29, 2019

As the new year marches on, our family continues our tradition of picking a theme word for the year.

We write our intentions and goals in alignment with our word and identify categories for each.

The goals for mental and relational growth, financial and spiritual growth, emotional wellness and whatever each feels compelled to include.

We have a family meal and share our word and related intentions.  We continue to meet weekly for dinner and revisit our goals every 3 months.

It is very exciting as we begin and everyone is full of hope for the New Year.

Then I ask the question:

“What will keep us from living out our intentions?”

Pitfalls.  What are they?

Statistics show that the majority of goals are not met due to obstacles, old habits and challenges on the “road” to achieving our goals.  One way to assure our success toward reaching our goals is to identify our pitfalls and make a plan to overcome them WHEN they present themselves.

One of my intentions for the year is to spend a block of time each week writing.  My identified pitfall is to allow the needs of others or work tasks to crowd out the block of time I set for writing.  My solution is to: one, be aware this will happen, treat my writing as a set appointment with myself, and reward myself with a star on my calendar communicating I was staying true to myself. Also, to savor the true energetic satisfaction from creativity.

We truly enjoyed our theme time, goal setting and pitfall plan, knowing as a team, we can accomplish more than we can imagine.

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.

Ephesians 3:20
