Off Road Thinking

December 5, 2017

I recently read a story about a man who bought a new ATV so he could ride around his neighborhood.  It would help him complete his tasks quickly and be “cool”.

He then realized, (after talking to his buddy) that the ATV was designed for “off road” terrain.  He was forced by his friends to take it off road and fully experience this sport.

This story prompted an analogy of how I have fixed mindsets towards my life, my gifts and my potential. Do I want to remain in what I think is safe, secure and predictable? Am I using my resources for what they are intended for, or am I overlaying them with limiting beliefs?

Who can help me take the next “one step” to go into a new territory and break new ground, challenge this safety thinking and enlarge my capacity to live life more fully.

Off road experiences present themselves to us in random ways.  I sometimes see them as danger zones, BUT they are really beckoning us to embrace or create a new path.  It may take time to make the path smooth, but if we keep “driving” on that path, it won’t be scary anymore and we may have fun!

I see this so clearly as I navigate the mind chatter of self criticism or judgment.  I can reframe it more quickly and connect to the benefits of stepping on my “ATV” and going for a RIDE!

Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right…think on such things.
