Pockets of Pain

Sometimes I find little treasures in the pockets of last winter’s coat or handbag I have not used in a while. Sometimes, it is something I have missed and sometimes it is something I just throw away.

One of my mentors recently reminded me of all the growth, hard work, healing and strides I have made in the last 10 years. She also said there may still be some pockets of pain in my heart and soul. It may be hard to go to those places because I fear the pain.

It made sense to me as I still occasionally experience small waves of sadness and fear in my system, but don’t logically know why or how to let it go. It is not overwhelming, but it is low level wear and tear on my emotional well- being.

It was during our Flourish Weekend retreat yoga session that I found the contents of those pockets. It was a time to “be”, to listen to my body and to access my emotions. The particular sound therapy enabled me to find and throw away the contents of those pockets of pain hanging in my soul.

I now experience waves of joy, contentment and anticipation. I have a new level of trust in myself, God and others.

Those old pockets are empty, and now, I can recognize foreign substances in my heart or soul when they arise. I won’t let them fill up with pain. I know how to let go and live.

Trust in Him at all times, pour out your heart to Him, for God is our refuge.
