I Love Music

July 19, 2016

It is intriguing to me that my children are now listening to some songs I listened to back in high school and college.  Classics.

A few days ago, I was driving in the city and a song came on that I used to listen to every week at my gymnastics gym when I was a young teen.  I was flooded with vivid memories of how I felt, thought and the exact atmosphere of that delightful time in my life.

When I am working out on the stationary bike I feel completely in the flow and time is of no essence, because of the music I listen to.  The same happens when I attend a concert or participate in worship, there is a deep connection and renewal of my being.

I am noticing how powerful music is, how much our culture values it and how beautiful it truly is.  I often share songs with friends because they just “have” to hear this great piece of creativity.  I can be in a low mood or feeling shaken and turn the music on and I am released and healed.

Research by Dr. Fratianne explains this healing power of music. He states that music is effective for healing both physically and emotionally because it engages all three areas of the brain.  Doctors are now using music therapy in clinical settings.  It is most powerful when people listen to the music most powerful for them.

I will continue to cling to my music as a source of renewal and now I have evidence to support the power it gives to a thriving and flourishing life

“And He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God.”

Psalm 40:3
